Ethics & Sustainability
Organic
Where possible, we use organic ingredients in our products, including herbs that have been grown without the use of synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides or fungicides.
Intensive farming practices worldwide have aided in the degradation of our soil, which has a huge impact on our ability to grow food, and for the wider ecosystem that depends on fertile earth. Soil is precious and we support growing and harvesting methods that cause the least amount of damage as possible.
Natural
We use raw, natural and naturally derived ingredients to make our products. These are unrefined, cold-pressed, steam-distilled, and organic where possible.
Our products are always fresh, and designed to be used within 6 - 12 months.
Vegan and Cruelty-free
When our founder, Mila, first started her journey into natural skincare she was shocked to find out how many animal ingredients were in products, and how many beauty products she had grown up with that were tested on animals.
All of our products are vegan, none of which have been tested on animals.
Sustainably Sourced Cold-Pressed Oils
Where possible, our oils are sourced from Europe. All of our organic oils from our supplier have Soil Association organic certificates.
Our strawberry and raspberry seed oils in Hedgerow Nectar are by-products of Europe's jam-making industry which would otherwise go to waste, and our olive oil for our soaps comes from a single-origin, organic olive farm in the mountains of Greece.
Supporting Organic & Fair Trade Farms
We believe farmers should be paid and treated well, and herbs should be sown, grown, and harvested with love and care. We support farmers who are committed to sustainability and organic farming.
Where we can, we support women-owned farms, and farms who employ more vulnerable members of society, such as refugees. Our spices, which come mostly from India and Sri Lanka are fair trade, meaning the farmers get paid a fair price for their work.
Plastic-Free Packaging
With the exception of our dropper and atomiser lids that do contain recyclable plastic, we house our products in recyclable and refillable amber glass jars with aluminium lids, and package Wild Nettle Hot Chocolate in compostable pouches with compostable labels.
Our products come packaged in recyclable kraft boxes with paper tape. We reuse packing peanuts from our suppliers when we ship wholesale orders. We occasionally receive some plastic packaging from our suppliers but always endeavour to reuse it, like when we are shipping wholesale orders, and we hope you will continue to reuse it too!
